Techworker Community Africa (TCA) emerged as a response to the discerned
challenges faced by data workers, particularly within the African landscape, amidst the increasing integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. The esteemed founders, including Mophat Okinyi, Richard Mathenge, Kings Korodi, Albert Ogallo, and Terry Mghoi, identified a noteworthy trend where AI applications were being harnessed in ways that raised concerns about the treatment of African workers. Many found themselves engaged in roles involving cost-effective labor in data training for machine learning, often under less-than-ideal working conditions and without due acknowledgment for their substantial contributions.
We work with the doers and the visionaries
Drawing from their own experiences and recognizing the need for transformative initiatives, the founders observed instances where data workers were treated as expendable, contributing to an unfavorable work environment.
